The Forbidden Siren series was a franchise that focuses on a slower gameplay style and a somewhat confusing story telling style. However, the series didn't really last long after the release of Siren: Blood Curse on the Playstation 3 in 2008.

What Killed The Siren Franchise?[]

The death of the Siren series was caused by Project Siren when they've moved on to work on the "Gravity Rush" games for the PS Vita and decided to end the series after Siren: Blood Curse failed to become a "Greatest Hit". Project Siren decided that this was the last straw for them to make another game for the siren franchise. Athough, Siren: Blood Curse was received favorable reviews, it still didn't sell well.

What Caused The Decline Of The Siren Franchise?[]

When the first game was released in North America, it didn't sell or review very well. Many Western audiences complained that they were brought back to start a level all over again that they've already completed it. They've also complained that they can't figure out what to do in the game and why there are no hints that there is a puzzle that they've missed. The game then was despised by Western audiences complaining that the game is too difficult and frustrating to play.

According to Project Siren team leader, Keiichiro Toriyama, he didn't want players to complete the game simply by playing it normally. He wanted players to figure out what the story is about and how to figure out the puzzles and wants them to figure out what they did wrong in the game so they can go back and solve it.

Forbidden Siren 2 did improve on most of the elements of the first game. Movement was snappier and combat was less stifled while the overall mood of the original game was largely intact with the new cast of characters and a story that played out in a similar fashion to the first game. The game was only released in Europe and Japan on the Playstation 2.

Project Siren decided that a slower gameplay style and a somewhat confusing story style wasn't a great fit for Western Audiences so they've decided not to release the second game to the United States because of the average and below average reviews. Forbidden Siren 2 was well received, but it wasn't popular.

End of the Series[]

In 2008, Project Siren made a third siren game on the Playstation 3, known as Siren: Blood Curse, which instead is a reimaging of the first game instead of a sequel. The game was very well favored by Western audiences since it began to re-tell what the curse is all about of the Siren franchise. But sadly, Blood Curse stayed as a niche game and underground at a time when the series really needed a "Greatest Hit" and this is what said to be the last straw for Project Siren.

There are no confirmations at this point whether if Project Siren will ever make a siren game in the future.
