The origin of the cult is unknown. It was probably started by Hisako Yao at some point after 684 AD.

The name Mana (真魚) means True (真 ma), fish (魚)
Cult[]
The main objective of the cult is to venerate Datatsushi and to expiate the sins of the village after they ate it.
Scripture[]
It has its own scripture, also known as Shibito script. It is unknown whether the villagers learn this script through their religious education when young as part of the local tradition or if they learn it automatically once they become Shibitos.
If it is learned as part of the tradition of the village then it would mean that it likely originated as a way to secretly communicate during the Tokugawa shogunate in order to avoid religious persecution.
